Job purpose:

As part of the Innovation Services team and reporting to Bruntwood SciTech’s Director of Life Sciences, you will work jointly between Bruntwood SciTech and the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator  (PHTA).  This is a critical role in the establishment of a new life science cluster and innovation ecosystem in the region and you will be responsible for working closely with regional stakeholders and managing the delivery of innovation programmes, initiatives & events for life science businesses in Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA) and Birmingham Health & Innovation Campus (BHIC). 

Phase 1 of BHIC will be home to the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA), a business innovation facility which will bring entrepreneurs, start-ups and scale-ups together with the next generation of academic and clinical leaders, creating unique opportunities to commercialise ideas and accelerate the rapid development of cutting-edge therapies and technologies. PHTA will provide innovators and small enterprises with access to the expertise, resources and infrastructure to enable translation of healthcare innovations – including phase I to III clinical trials and real-world evaluation.

This will involve coordinating a vibrant and sustainable community of life science organisations. Your primary role will be to scope, set up, launch and successfully deliver each initiative & event, with the support and direction of the Director of Life Sciences, Head of Innovation, and the CEO of the PHTA.

What will you be doing:

  • Reporting to the Director of Life Sciences and working jointly across Bruntwood SciTech and the PHTA, you will help to shape, deliver and take the lead on a bespoke innovation and business support events programme across Birmingham Health & Innovation Campus .
  • Create initiatives and communities to mobilise the campus .
  • Map out capabilities across the University of Birmingham to facilitate access for BHIC companies.
  • Manage stakeholders expectations internally, externally and within the University of Birmingham.
  • Collaborate with marketing to define the promotion of each new programme and event, and manage applications and participation. 
  • Lead on reporting and managing performance of programmes for Bruntwood SciTech and PHTA.
  • Assist entrepreneurs to connect with other technical organisations within the region and  across the UK, including the wider Bruntwood SciTech network of sites.
  • Represent the voice of the community within the campus and build in effective feedback processes.
  • Enable the West Midlands Innovation Accelerator program across BHIC and PHTA as appropriate.
  • Develop strategy for showcasing BHIC and PHTA across the Bruntwood SciTech network.
  • Work closely with marketing functions regarding the launch of BHIC in 2023.
  • Closely manage costs and budgets to ensure that we maximise both time and value.
  • Be an active member of the PHTA and Bruntwood SciTech Innovation Services team.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience managing stakeholders across multiple businesses, as well as internally.
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once with varied timeframes, expectations and budgets.
  • The ability to plan and deliver events and networking.
  • Evidence of a keen interest in science and innovation.   
  • Experience working with start-ups and disruptors would be highly advantageous.
  • The ability to be autonomous.
  • A keen inquisitive mind to think creatively and diversify your approach to suit different businesses.
  • Excellent networking skills and able to manage ongoing relationships.
  • Demonstrate a natural ability and personality that will build and maintain personal credibility with client and partner relationships.
