Oxford, UK:  Accentus Medical is pleased to announce the clinical application of its Acusure® thermal plasma spray titanium coating to the MOTUS Total Joint Replacement device developed by US-based customer 3Spine, Inc. for the lumbar spine sector. The MOTUS implant is used in the first Total Joint Replacement procedure for the lumbar spine to treat degenerative conditions. It is a ‘first of kind’ technology replacing the function of the disc and facet joints through a posterior approach.

Ron Yarbrough, COO of 3Spine said: “We are very excited to be partnered with Accentus Medical for supply of their proprietary Acusure® coating technology with our innovative MOTUS device. The Accentus management team displayed considerable technical focus and discipline in responding to our need for a reliable, quality-assured titanium coating, meeting complex manufacturing and design requirements of the MOTUS device components. In our experience, Accentus Medical has demonstrated capability to deliver its clinically established Acusure® coating on complex device components with globally differentiated process control and consistency.”

Dr Philip Agg, CEO of Accentus Medical said: “We are very proud to be servicing the 3Spine team with supply of our Acusure® titanium coating for their breakthrough device for Total Joint Replacement in the lumbar spine. Following successful manufacturing build of a clinical launch stock, in June 2022 3Spine commenced a pivotal Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical trial across several enrolled US spine surgery centres. We look forward to growing manufacturing supply to 3Spine as they continue their clinical progress with this potentially transformative breakthrough spinal technology.”
