Letter to the Chancellor

As we approach the Autumn Budget on November 26th, we find ourselves at a critical juncture for UK life sciences. The prolonged global funding drought is putting at risk the continued growth of our sector, and we need urgent support from the Government.

The BIA, with full support from OBN, is calling on the Chancellor not to raise taxes or business rates and instead accelerate public investment through Innovate UK and British Business Bank, enhance R&D tax reliefs, VC investment incentives and employee share options for knowledge intensive companies, and to go faster and harder on pension reform and the Mansion House Accord to get capital flowing into our ecosystem. These are realistic and deliverable actions in the current fiscal environment that will make a difference for innovators and entrepreneurs.

OBN is working in unison with the BIA in asking all OBN member CEOs from R&D companies to sign this letter to show the strength of feeling from our sector. Please read the letter and add your signature via this link.

Feel free to share this with other CEOs who may wish to sign. We are looking for the most senior representative from each company, and only one signature per company. You can also submit one signature per company that you lead, if you have multiple.

The deadline for signing is 9am on Monday morning.

Many thanks for your support.
