The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a national research centre, funded by the UK government through UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to bringing about transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. Based in a purpose-built building on the Harwell Campus just outside Didcot, this role works closely with Health and Safety, Lab Managers, Technicians and Scientists to ensure that we have a safe working environment. As a Quality Assistant within the Operations Team, you will report to the Quality Manager.

Role overview 

Working as part of a small operations team you will focus on compliance and audit activities across the organisation. Your primary task will be managing documentation for the Quality Management System and supporting other functions to ensure compliance to relevant SOPs and quality standards. You will collaborate with teams and stakeholders to identify opportunities for improving quality.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and supporting internal audits as part of the Franklins audit schedule, with particular emphasis on areas of regulatory compliance.
  • Preparing audit reports, summarising the effectiveness of internal controls, highlighting areas of noncompliance, root cause analysis and opportunities for improving internal controls.
  • Assisting in quality investigations and participant incident meetings.
  • Documenting and tracking agreed corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintaining the database of prior audit recommendations and coordinating the follow-up by the Quality Manager.
  • Carrying out quality control processes.
  • Providing guidance on operational changes and improvements.
  • Applying problem solving capabilities to determine root causes of issues and identify effective CAPAs.
  • Assisting with the preparation of statistical analysis and reports.
  • Assisting with maintaining the documents contained within the Quality Management System.
  • Assisting with project management administration relating to quality and regulatory relevant projects, maintaining documentation, minuting relevant steering groups and maintaining action logs.

Selection criteria

Essential

  • Experience in Quality Assurance (QA), either GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), GLP (Good Laboratory Practice or GCP (Good Clinical Practice
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good level of written and spoken English
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Experience with a Quality Management System
  • Demonstrable experience in using IT, including using Microsoft Office packages and other databases

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline with relevant experience (Preferably Biology/ Chemistry/ Pharmacy/Life Sciences)
