The Company

GyreOx Ltd is a young and vibrant company with headquarters on the Harwell Research Campus in Oxfordshire, UK.  The Company has developed a proprietary combined chemistry and synthetic biology technology for the creation of highly modified macrocyclic peptides, which have the potential to address complex intracellular targets in a range of diseases of significant unmet clinical need.

We are currently recruiting for a newly created position.

The Role

A PhD-level scientist is sought to work on the Company’s automated platform and new drug development programmes.  This will be predominantly laboratory-based in the first instance, but represents the potential for a future leadership role within the Company, through developing an understanding of the commercial aspects of the Company’s business.

The position would suit a synthetic chemist with considerable analytical experience or an analytical chemist with a knowledge of synthesis.  In this position, your responsibilities will include: the synthesis and purification of libraries of linear and cyclic peptide-based compounds, using both automated peptide synthesisers and manual procedures; cleavage of peptides from resin supports; analysis by HPLC and mass spectrometry; and, modifications of peptides by enzymatic biotransformation.  You will be responsible for planning and undertaking analysis, purification, isolation and characterisation of our linear and cyclic compounds, and will need to be able to collaborate effectively with other colleagues as part of a team.

Experience with LC and LC-MS is essential, along with the ability to trouble shoot and perform routine maintenance of HPLC equipment.

A PhD in an appropriate chemical or biochemical subject would be expected, but consideration will be given to applicants who have acquired the necessary experience within industry, particularly within drug discovery.

Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and of the routine testing and analysis of peptide-based compounds using HPLC, LC-MS, and LC-MS/MS are desirable.

Knowledge of the synthesis, purification, analysis and development of peptides and macrocycles would be advantageous, but not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing and ambitious organisation with a very exciting and busy future.  Salary will range from £38,000 - £46,000 per year depending on experience.  We can offer a varied and interesting working environment and we are focussed on the recognition and enpowerment of our scientists and operational team.  The Company has  a share option scheme so that an employee's contribution to success can be rewarded.  We are located on the Harwell Campus - a leading European science and innovation campus, specifically planned as a place where professionals from around the world choose to come and work, see .
