The OBN Christmas Lecture 2019: ‘New Frontiers for Cell & Gene Therapy’, delivered by Prof. Bobby Gaspar, Tuesday 3 December - Oxford
We are delighted to announce that the OBN Christmas Lecture is this year entitled: ‘New Frontiers for Cell & Gene Therapy’, and will be presented by the eminent Prof. Bobby Gaspar, Co-Founder and CSO of Orchard Therapeutics and Professor of Paediatrics and Immunology at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.
About the Lecture:
Cell and gene therapy technology is evolving rapidly, with the number of clinical trials and companies working in the area increasing year-on-year. This burgeoning activity means that we are now closer than ever to gene and cell therapies for many different disease areas including cancer, vision, movement, infectious diseases and rare diseases. The approval of the first gene therapy products has taken place over the few last years demonstrating that these complex therapeutics have really arrived.
However much work is still needed to broaden the range of indications for which treatments are available and to understand their effectiveness, durability and long-term safety and to understand and answer the ethical questions raised.
Prof. Gaspar will share an update on this new era of treatment for genetic diseases using gene and cell therapies and offer his view on how the field will develop. He will also address what can be done to ensure that patients have access to these life changing and life-saving treatments.”
