Located in the heart of Oxford’s booming health and data sciences community and opening in late April, the new Wood Centre for Innovation (WCFI) has been developed to provide bespoke innovation space for entrepreneurs, start-up and grow-on tech companies particularly working in life science research, med tech or digital health.

The rapid growth of Oxford’s innovation ecosystem over the past ten years is thanks in no small part to the co-location of world-leading research facilities, university infrastructure and entrepreneurial expertise. Businesses based at WCFI will be able to benefit from their proximity to the University of Oxford’s Old Road Campus, national clinical research facilities at Oxford University Hospitals and Oxford Brookes University  – all of which are with easy walking/cycling distance.

Set in a unique fifteen-acre woodland in the east of the city and close to major transport links (M40, A34, M4, Oxford Parkway train station) the WCFI is tailor-made for young and growing tech companies to put down roots. The centre was designed by renowned architects ADP to provide a bright, eco-friendly and spacious environment in which to work, with many offices over-looking the site’s attractive woodland setting. It has flexible office space, meeting rooms for up to twenty people, a 120-seat auditorium for conferences and presentations, and integrated business support services.

The WCFI is owned by The Oxford Trust – a charity that supports innovation and entrepreneurship – and will be managed by Oxford Innovation (OI), the UK’s leading innovation centre operator. The centre will be fully integrated with the Trust’s other innovation centre – the Oxford Centre for Innovation in the city centre – meaning occupants can use the business facilities on both sites for meetings.

“Tech entrepreneurs and knowledge-intensive businesses are created, grown, succeed and locate in Oxford; investors are attracted by the wealth of entrepreneurial output in the city and region as a whole; people come to the city to benefit from the expertise within well-developed innovation support networks and to meet and share knowledge with like-minded individuals.  This is the first fully-serviced independent innovation centre in the area and will be invaluable to many organisations both starting and growing”

Steve Burgess, CEO of the Oxford Trust

“If you’re exploring opportunities to spin-out in the field of biomedical research, med tech or digital health or wanting to be close to the booming health & data sciences quarter, this new centre could be perfect. We have appropriate parking for cars and bikes and there’ll also be a cafe for our occupants”
