As the growing demand for personalised medicines continues, a recent report projects that the global growth of the Advanced Therapy Medical Products (ATMPs) market will also be boosted. RSSL has recognised this need and has created a training course perfectly suited to both those new to the field and those that have been working in the field for some time but have little understanding of the GMP expectations for this group of products.

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) has expanded its microbiology capabilities with the launch of a fast, responsive and flexible sterility testing service for pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
Following the opening of its state-of-the-art microbiology laboratory earlier this year, RSSL has launched a sterility testing service in response to sustained client demand and market growth. The move enables the leading contract research organisation (CRO) to further enhance the scope of its biopharmaceutical services and increase testing capacity.
“Over the last five years, our pharmaceutical analytical services have experienced tremendous growth, so entering the sterility market is a strategically sound step. It builds on our already diverse range of services which, together with our reputation for quality and scientific excellence, is a compelling combination - particularly for clients who are keen to work with one trusted laboratory.
“Not only that, in addition to a standard 21-day timeframe for this service, we are also offering clients an expedited 16-day and 14-day, which we believe to be one of the one of the quickest available on the market today,” says Reginald Fernandes, microbiology laboratory manager at RSSL.
RSSL’s new service encompasses two sterility test methods; membrane filtration for aqueous, alcohol, solvent and oil-based products, as well as direct inoculation for non-solubles. Both are used to determine the presence or absence of contaminating micro-organisms in terminally sterilised or aseptic filtered drug products, in accordance with Ph. Eur, JP and USP regulations.
Its introduction has been facilitated by further investment in a purpose-designed sterility testing suite, featuring a Grade D clean room installed by Connect2Clean rooms with Grade A Bioquell isolators. The new laboratory is expected to be fully operational from February 2020.
“To mark the launch, we are pleased to offer an exclusive cost-saving offer to every client who engages our sterility test services in the first 12 months. We would also like to extend an open invitation to visit our new facilities and discuss how our full-service microbiology offering can help to achieve individual safety goals,” adds Fernandes.
RSSL’s new sterility testing service is part of its comprehensive range of critical assessment services for manufacturers of sterile products. This complete biopharmaceutical testing package also includes microscopy to reduce the risks of particulate contamination, as well as endotoxin to analyse potential pyrogen contamination.

Outstanding dedication to quality, science and customer service helped Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) secure Best Contract Research Organisation (CRO) at this year’s OBN Awards.
The scientific consultancy scooped the award for Best CRO by successfully demonstrating the far-reaching impact of its expertise in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, microscopy and training; services which have been key to the development, regulatory approval, launch and commercial success of global drug products and medical devices.
Presented with clear evidence of innovation, problem solving and strong relationships with some of the industry’s leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, the judges commended RSSL for the quality of its services and tailored support - with particular recognition given to its out-of-hours, global Emergency Response Service.
Commenting on the award win, Jacinta George, managing director for RSSL said: “We are delighted to receive this acknowledgement at one of the most highly-respected events in the life sciences calendar. We know that the competition was extremely tough, so to be crowned winner of the CRO category is a significant achievement.
"The fact that our analytical Emergency Response Service was highlighted by the judges is particularly gratifying. This unique service - which has already enabled us to solve more than 15,000 emergency incidents ranging from urgent risk assessment of contaminants to potential counterfeit cases - is part of our drive to further improve the customer experience.
"We are exceptionally proud of our life-changing science and results, so recognition from our peers in the form of this OBN award helps to strengthen our resolve to raise the bar even higher.”
Judged by an independent panel of industry experts, the OBN Awards celebrates the most inspiring and innovative UK-based companies across biotech, medtech, imaging, digital and synthetic biology. This year’s awards evening was held at the Examination Schools in Central Oxford and attended by around 250 guests from across the life sciences industry.
