Senior Software Engineer - Core Engines

We are building a team of collaborative software engineers to transform drug discovery and improve human health. We value well-crafted software and clean architecture, developed through a steady process of incremental change. Our software developers continually strive to master new technologies and techniques, and always aim to choose the right tool for the task at hand. We reserve 10% of our working week for the exploration of new ideas, and share what we have learned with each other through mentorship, pair programming, and tech talks. We work in productive partnerships with our data scientists, statisticians, and domain experts to advance our understanding of the human wiring diagram.

Precision Health Data Scientist

We are seeking exceptional Data Scientists interested in the challenge of developing state of the art personal risk prediction algorithms that build on Genomics plc’s data engine. As a Precision Health Data Scientist, you will integrate diverse genomics and environmental data to make precision health care a reality. While a background in genetics or risk prediction is not required, an interest in learning about genetics, and how to solve big problems in healthcare is a must.

You should have:

  • A strong quantitative background, and most likely a PhD, in a STEM subject
  • Experience with scientific programming languages, either Python or R.
  • Proven experience of learning from large-scale data sets in a scientific or engineering context.
  • The ability to summarize and visualize complex datasets to look for patterns and potential biases
  • The ability to discuss and explain complex ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.
  • Working knowledge of risk prediction and survival analysis
  • The ability to understand complex concepts from outside your own field.

You should have:

  • A strong background in human disease and/or population genetics.
  • Experience analysing whole-genome or whole-exome sequencing data (e.g. variant calling and QC, statistical association analysis, interpretation of rare variant signals in complex disease).
  • Experience in standard statistical approaches and modern computational tools.
  • The ability to summarize and visualize datasets to look for patterns, signals, or potential biases.
  • The ability to explain your ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.

You should have:

  • A strong background in human disease genetics, including large scale data analysis.

  • Extensive experience in the statistical analysis of modern -omics data sets (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq or similar)

  • Experience in standard statistical approaches and modern computational tools.

  • The ability to summarize and visualize datasets to look for patterns, signals, or potential biases.

  • The ability to explain your ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.

You should ideally also have:

  • Previous experience analysing genome-wide CRISPR screens.

We have positions for a range of expertise, from those who have recently completed, or are due to complete, their PhDs to postdoctoral fellows and staff scientists. We will consider candidates interested in moving into genetics from other areas of data science.
