Our client is fast-growing and venture-funded, operating at the forefront of precision medicine by building communities and marketplaces for the users and providers of genomics data. The VP Commercial will be accountable for global revenue delivery and growth from their new Cancer Models platform and related consultancy and professional services. Candidates to have a minimum of a BSc in the biological sciences or related field such as bioinformatics, a minimum of 10 years’ experience in business development and commercial roles engaging the biopharma industry and demonstrated line management experience of managing, coaching and developing more junior business development and commercial professionals. They will also have significant experience of selling and renewing recurrent customer commitments (software-as-a-service, subscription content services, operational outsourcing contracts, etc.) including helping users/beneficiaries articulate compelling business cases to their spending authorisers and structuring the financial arrangements with respect to different budget pots and as capital or operational expenditure depending on the organisational context. They will also have familiarity with the mindset and internal workings of small and medium-sized contract research organisations and research-stage biotech companies would be a strong advantage. While the large pharma multinationals will account for the majority of revenue in the initial launch years, the value creation model in the Cancer Models business plan is driven in subsequent years by the “long tail” of small and medium-sized biopharmas and CROs.
