OBN, the UK’s leading membership organisation for life science companies is recruiting a New Business Development Manager to join its busy Commercial Team. This is a critical appointment and the post holder will be a key influencer in the sales, growth and ongoing success of the company.
The New Business Development Manager position is exciting and diverse, you will be working closely with many leading life science R&D companies, the investor community and a wide range of complimentary industry businesses.
Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for revenue generation, sponsor and member recruitment, attending many of the networking events during the year and promoting the services of OBN on the telephone and in face to face meetings. There is some evening work required and occasional attendance at overseas conferences.
You will be prepared to ‘get your hands dirty’, undertaking field-based sales across the UK and abroad. Possessing a positive and confident attitude together with excellent presentation skills, you will relish networking and meeting new people and will be able to demonstrably “open doors” and close the sale.
You may have been working for a company that sells its services into the life sciences industry, a trade association or membership organisation for a few years. You are looking to move into a fast moving and rewarding environment within an entrepreneurial atmosphere, in which success is achievable and service to the industry is the goal.
As this is an outward-facing role, working from a suitably located home-based office may be acceptable.
►Taking the lead on revenue generation, particularly with new sponsor and new member companies.
►Sales of membership, event sponsorship, exhibition space, showcase presentation slots and event registrations
►Engaging with delegates at networking events to promote the services of OBN
►Active input into the organisation’s strategy plans
►Participating in post-event feedback analysis and contributing to new ideas to improve future events and conferences.
►Experience in new business development and sales of services into the life science sector. Candidates with specific experience in sponsorship sales and/or membership sales will have an advantage. Please note: this role is not existing account management, it is all about generating genuinely new business for OBN
►Comprehensive up to date knowledge of the life science industry
►Have an extensive contact base from the life science industry
►Strong organisational skills

►An expectation to travel, in and out of business hours with occasional overnight stays
►Full driving licence + own transport (mileage will be reimbursed)
►A degree in life science and/or business and marketing
►Experience working with social media
►Highly independent, energetic and motivated self-starter
►Demonstrable experience of establishing relationships with new clients, making and closing sales, hitting sales targets
►Natural networker, comfortable to engage and interact with people at all levels, strong relationship builder, prepared to go that extra mile to reach the desired outcome

►BioTrinity: Now in its 11th year, it is by far the leading investment and bio-partnering conference in the UK. BioTrinity 2018 takes place on 23-25 April 2018
►OBN BioSeed: The inaugural edition of this event took place in November 2017 and is specifically aimed at life science companies looking for seed or series-A funding. The event was very well received and it will be exciting to see the impact of the investment that was secured. The next edition is scheduled for 30 October 2018.
►OBN Awards: Held annually in the autumn, this event engages with key influencers in the life science sector to recognise the achievements of its contributors, including fledgling companies, big pharma and investors.
►BioForward: Due to be launched in February 2018 and taking place in October 2018, this is the latest addition to our portfolio. It is a brand new, unique, high-quality international conference focused on developing a roadmap for R&D companies looking to achieve sustainable business growth.
The one-day conference will feature a trade exhibition and series of keynote and breakout sessions discussions on relevant non-financial business topics, including: CRO’s, market access, regulatory, IP, talent, strategy, service provision and manufacturing.
In addition, there are around 40 smaller events throughout the UK, including training, evening and breakfast networking and invitation-only C-Suite meetings.
OBN’s acclaimed Purchasing Consortium is an important aspect of our membership package that results in substantial savings for our members.
OBN also offers consultancy services, e.g. cluster mapping and works with like-minded organisations to get our members’ voices heard in parliament.
Salary: £competitive + bonus scheme up to 10% of base salary, based on company profitability and achievement of personal performance targets.
Holidays: 25 days per year, plus bank holidays
Pension: Auto-enrolment after 3 months’ service. OBN will match employee contributions up to 5%.
Private Healthcare: An optional benefit following successful completion of the probationary period.

Hours: A high level of flexibility is expected as part of this role, however, the core hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday
